Augmented Reality (AR) optimizes operators' situational awareness in surface, mine and expeditionary warfare. AR “paints” multi sensor data onto live video and thermal images used in mine warfare and littoral operations using the same technology that “paints” the first down line in a TV football broadcast.
Augmented Reality enables operators to rapidly and intuitively understand geographically-registered data by overlaying the data on a real world view. This technology promotes instant human cognition and provides operators with a leap ahead situational awareness capability. Most importantly, the 3 dimensionally overlaid data continues to be visible even when adverse weather or darkness set in.
Any information that has a geographic component can be overlaid, including: navigation data (routes, navaids, etc.), sensor data (Radar, AIS), tactical mine warfare data (MEDAL), IFF data (Blue Force Tracker), sensor data feeds from unmanned assets (UAV video feeds), and more. Augmented Reality enhances safety and ease of navigation by enabling operators to avoid underwater obstacles, view boundaries, and accurately navigate tactical lines and routes in any weather, day or night.
In addition, the system allows Vehicle Operators, Deck Officers and Craft masters to view and comprehend multi source information while keeping their eyes on the real world.
